All applications will be reviewed and considered for the program. Since this is a very popular program, we anticipate the amount of applicants will exceed the amount of funding. Therefore, we will prioritize applications based on several factors including nutrition risk, age, low income, living alone, and minority status.

The Senior Dining Program participants receive certificates to redeem at participating restaurants. At each restaurant the participants have a choice between several meals that meet program guidelines as approved by a Registered Dietitian. It is a service funded by the Older Americans Act and donations. The goal of the program is to provide a nutritious meal, nutrition education, and socialization to seniors age 60 and older.

TAKE THE PLEDGE FOR MEALS ON WHEELS

The Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) recently released a groundbreaking study entitled “Senior Hunger in the United States: Differences across States and Rural and Urban Areas.” A follow-up to the landmark 2008 report entitled “The Causes, Consequences and Future of Senior Hunger in America,” the national research study examines senior hunger on a state-by-state level and provides substantial evidence that the number of seniors facing the threat of hunger in America is growing at an alarming rate.

In fact, senior hunger is even growing right here in Ohio. The findings indicate that Ohio ranks 26th out of America’s 50 senior hunger states.

In response to this enormous and complicated problem, our agency has joined the Meals On Wheels programs across the country have simply taken a pledge to join a national movement to end senior hunger by 2020. Join us and support our local program. Spread the word to seniors who need home delivered meals or donate to our home delivered meal service. Let’s fight Senior Hunger!
